Be Merciful to Me

Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
Psalm 6:2

Because Amyloid is a disease of the bone marrow, this psalm of King David reflects the cry of Irene’s heart …. and that of many who prayerfully intercede on her behalf.

Long Bone

As we petition the Almighty God for Irene’s healing, there’s a more significant need for HEALING which strikes at the heart of all humanity …. the imperative healing of the heart ….

Why, you ask?

The heart is deceitful above all things ….
Jeremiah 17:9a

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way ….
Isaiah 53:6a

The Human Heart

Carmen and Jane are visiting this weekend. After a PJ party last night they delighted in a “tamale” party today ….

Tamales

Tamales

…. three “HOT” TAMALES ….

Keep Smiling

Irene just keeps smiling ….

…. I’m “suffering” below with my modest serving of delicious tamales …. “pobrecito” me …. (poor me) …. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave and the Tamales

The reality is that all of us are born into sin; our hearts are proud and insubordinate to God.  Metaphorically, we long to sit on the throne, rule our own lives and go our own way.

Throne

But that is contrary to the ways of God.  It is only the supernatural intervention of God’s Holy Spirit, placed in us when we accept and follow Jesus that we’re forgiven, in right relationship with Him, and willingly assent to His purposes.

So, here’s the question …. What does it take to have God’s supernatural intervention in the affairs of men?  God answers the question with this:

…. if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will HEAL their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

The responsibility is for us, as followers of Christ to ….

  • live in humility
  • pray
  • seek God’s face
  • turn from our wicked ways

In doing so, God PROMISES to respond by ….

  • hearing our prayers
  • forgiving our sin
  • healing our land

Lest we must remember, however, that our works don’t justify us …. for it is God who acts on our behalf ….

For while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

He did for us what we couldn’t do for ourselves.  So, there’s the tension between God’s action and our accountability.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Proverbs 4:23

Soldiers

God longs to heal our hearts from sin’s stronghold upon us as individuals and to heal our land because of a culture that has turned away from God.  We are admonished to step up to the challenge by guarding our heart and surrendering to Him with reckless abandon.

What we observe in Irene is a heart that is healed and wholeheartedly surrendered to Jesus …. whose attitude is a reflection of the Holy Spirit which works so powerfully in and through her.  God gets all the glory.

Therefore, as we await the amyloid’s retreat into remission we boldly petition the Almighty with the cry of a needy heart ….

Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
Psalm 6:2

Caminando con Fé
