Robert and I were saddened to hear of Irene’s diagnosis and health/treatment challenges. Reading the website offers reassurance that if anyone can overcome what is ahead, it is you two and your girls. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

The devotion I shared with my students today was based on Philippians 4:8, Dave and Irene.

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence, anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

You both are living examples of this verse.  Marsha, Martha, and I enjoyed our visit with you yesterday.  May God continue to send reminders of His presence with you and love for you both.

Dear Irene:

Bill and I are so sorry to hear you are sick! We know you are in the best hands medically; but more importantly, you are in God’s hands, and we know He is holding you tight!

Know that we are praying for your FULL recovery - and also praying for strength and peace for you and Dave as you go on this journey.

We just learned of Irene’s condition, and are at a loss for words. Irene’s disease sounds wickedly brutal, and we pray that she has the physical and spiritual strength to endure what will be a daunting time ahead.

The juxtaposition of your Christian faith with the cutting-edge medical modalities that are being deployed in this battle is jarring. Walking with Christ and leading exemplary lives provides you with the courage and optimism to meet the challenges ahead. We would like to thank God for His divine guidance, that surely must have inspired the scientists and physicians to investigate and discover the treatments that are being brought to bear.
